Gnathology dental occlusion bruxism

Problems with your jaw and the muscles in your face that control it are known as temporomandibular disorders (TMD).
Injury to your jaw, the joint, or the muscles of your head and neck – can lead to TMD. Other causes include:

  • Grinding or clenching your teeth (bruxism), which puts a lot of pressure on the joint;
  • Movement of the soft cushion or disc between the ball and socket of the joint;
  • Arthritis in the joint;
  • Stress, which can cause you to tighten facial and jaw muscles or clench the teeth;
teeth grinding

Depending on your history and symptoms, we may recommend a variety of treatment options. One of them is a stabilization/occlusal splint (bite guard) to treat your pain. This custom-made plastic device fits over the upper or lower teeth and is used to control the interaction between the top and bottom teeth and maintains the joint in a healthy position.
