Ozone Therapy

Ozone Therapy

Widely used for decades, dental ozone therapy is a leading treatment in biological dentistry. Ozone is a naturally occurring gas molecule which quickly breaks down to provide healing oxygen gas and active oxygen ions which kill bacteria. In addition to its antibacterial activity, ozone is a powerful signaling molecule that triggers your body’s immune response.

The uses of ozone therapy at our dental practice include:

mouth ulcer treatment
  • Cavity/Decay Treatment: After removing decay and/or mercury filling material from a tooth, ozone gas could be applied to disinfect the cavity before placing a new filling or crown on the affected tooth.
  • Oral Pathologies (stomatitis, aphthous ulceration, candidiasis, herpes infections).
  • Oral Surgery Procedures: Following a tooth extraction or other surgical procedure in the mouth, ozone water is used to irrigate the surgical site. Ozone gas is also placed in the soft tissue surrounding the site to reduce infection, as well as reduce post-operative pain.
  • Periodontal Treatment: As part of gum disease treatment, ozone gas and ozone water are used to irrigate the gum pockets caused by periodontal disease, helping to kill the bad bacteria that cause disease. Ozonated oil is also used on the dental tools to remove calculus that builds up on the teeth and irritates gums.
  • Root Canal Treatment: Ozone gas and water help to disinfect the small dentin tubules in the teeth, in addition to the main nerve canals during root canal therapy. We also use ozonated oil to lubricate our dental tools used for the procedure. These steps help to reduce the bacteria in and around the infected tooth.
  • Tooth Sensitivity Treatment: For sensitive root surfaces, ozone gas is brushed along the gumline to greatly reduce sensitivity so you can return to fully enjoying your favorite foods and beverages.
